Breathe Again

The 12th Doctor era has officially begun! Tell us what you thought of Peter Capaldi’s debut adventure in the comments section below. What did you think of Peter’s performance? What did you think of his Doctor? What did you think of the new opening titles and the umpteempth arrangement of the theme music by Murray Gold? What about the story itself, by Steven Moffat? Did Jenna Coleman surprisingly steal the show with her performance? What about the change of pace and tone of the episode? The returning guest appearances (both the surprising and the un-surprising ones)? The possibilities for comment are endless! Take a deep breath and let us know!

Look over there! It’s a new season approaching!

By my count, it is the 36th season of Doctor Who which starts tomorrow. Yes, I am counting the run of Tennant specials as a season, and I am counting the 2012 and 2013 seasons (also known as Series 7) as separate seasons. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman point the way to a new run of adventures - either that or they are trying to spot where the legendary Morton Dill may have set foot in The Chase. On this occasion, time will not ever tell. Peter and Jenna are no longer in New York - as Morton Dill himself once said, they just left.

Get ready to give us your opinions on the new season of Doctor Who, whatever number you call it, as we will have special blog posts for each new episode after they air.

Who knows what lurks in the mind of the 12th Doctor

If this is the sort of facial expressions that Peter Capaldi can provide when being happily stuck in a confined space with Jenna Coleman, I can’t wait to see what he will look like when confronted by a Dalek, or a Cyberman, or maybe even the City Administrator from the Sensorites.

Although once again, this is just from the World Tour, this time in Sydney, Australia - rather than from an actual story. Which is in a sense too bad, as one can easily imagine the Sea Devils emerging from the water in this picture (complete with an Aussie accent), sinking that boat that is speeding by, and ready to do battle against our heroes. I know Capaldi looks ready for them.

Seoul of the Doctor

After Name, Night, Day and Time of the Doctor, one could be forgiven for thinking that the title of this entry was also the name of the next episode of Doctor Who (spelt correctly of course) and that this was a publicity shot from it. Of course, it isn’t. If they do another Doctor Who world tour, it might be an idea to film some new episodes along the way. Some of the places they are visiting are breathtakingly beautiful (just like Jenna Coleman, I might add!)

We’ll get to more pics from more of the tour in advance of the final countdown to the new era of Doctor Who, starting less than 5 days from now!

The Lady in Red

This is not actually a publicity shot from a forthcoming episode of Doctor Who (though it would have been cool if it was). It is in fact from the current World Tour that Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are on promoting the launch of the 12 Doctor and the 8th series, or 34th season (or is that 36th season?) of Doctor Who. The new TARDIS team looks ready to take on the world, so it is just as well that they are!

One month to go!

One month from today Doctor Who will be returning to our screens with the start of a new season and the proper beginning of the Peter Capaldi era of the show! Look for the broadcast at 8pm in North America on Space and BBC America in Canada and the US, respectively.

This will be the 36th Season of Doctor Who by my counting. Not that my counting really counts for anything.

Take a Breath, Take a Deep Breath Now

Doctor Who
returns to our screens on August 23rd with the debut adventure of the 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, in the “feature length” adventure Deep Breath. What does “feature length” actually mean in terms of running time? We are not quite sure in this instance - the 75 minute Day of the Doctor was also promoted by the BBC as being “feature length” - it is likely that the episode will be longer than 60 minutes but unlikely to be longer than 90. Although a double-length episode might help to explain why (or reassure) Capaldi’s first season is said to be only 12 episodes long (not counting the Christmas special that will follow in December) - a 90 minute debut episode would effectively mean that the season will be just as long as previous seasons, with two episodes combined into one. But time will tell. And very soon…....

The Kind of Massacre I’d Like to See

Just because I hadn’t seen this photo before, from a story from which there aren’t any telesnaps and very few photographs. And no footage which exists in the BBC archives. Note the qualifier, conspiracy-theorists…....
