The Time Robber

What did you think of the fifth episode of the Peter Capaldi era, Time Hustle - er, sorry, Time Heist? The architects of this episode were Steven Thompson and Steven Moffat, while its major guest star was Spooks and Ashes to Ashes star Keeley Hawes (pictured above). Did you get all fired up while watching it or did your brain turn to soup? Better write your comments down now before you touch any worms.

A interesting premise, but the story just seemed slow to me. I wanted to watch the direct feed online, but with all the problems with it, I tried to watch it on BBC America tonight and it was SLOW in the pace. People say its a McCoy story in the idea of someone using them in a game, but the pacing of the story was just SLOW!

Claras too immature for capaldi

Is that John Smith the janitor?  8{)

Good episode. I did not find it slow at all. The two accomplices could work as part-time companions in the same vein as the Paternoster Gang, although I’d prefer it if they remained one-offs.

The one niggling annoyance I have is this tendency of Moffat’s to want to tie up every little dangling thread - in this instance, how did Clara get the Doctor’s phone number? To me, that was the greatest failing of “The Time of the Doctor,” that it tried to solve problems which didn’t really seem to be problems in the first place. Some questions never get answered in life.

The Doctor didn’t rely on the Sonic Screwdriver!!! How awesome was that!?

And if any story was screaming out for the Sonic this was it: impregnable fortresses, barricades and vault combinations!!!  But for a wonderful change, when the Doctor did bring it out, it proved to be ineffective.

I think Moffat did this ON PURPOSE to address the over-usage of the Sonic. Refreshingly, he had the characters use their intelligence and cleverness to break into the bank.

We ARE definitely moving in the right direction with series 8.

Really enjoyed that. Light and breezy but with some interesting elements, well paced, good support characters. good sense of the scale of the bank planet even if that reminded me a bit of the Library.  The Doctor’s need to save the last two Tellers showed the core of all the Doctors’ values still there within the current fierce and grumpy shell. The relationship with Clara is intriguing. He needs his friend even if he would hate to admit it. Reminds me a bit of Saga and Martin from the Bridge although i doubt Capaldi really had Saga Noren’s aspergis detective in mind as a model.  However, while fun there are some grumbles. Last of its kind? The star whale. Seeking its mate? Whatever that monster from Hide was called. Looking like a Minotaur and psychically feeding? The God Complex. A satisfying episode even if it seems to re-cycle a few echoes from the recent past.
