Doctor Who Blog

Oh, what a Trek that was!

The Empty Child.jpg

This past weekend saw Toronto Trek 19 held at the DoubleTree International Plaza, and proved to be a great weekend for Doctor Who fans that attended.

Matthew Waterhouse (Adric) was there representing the original series, cheerfully signing autographs and having his photo taken with Doctor Who fans old and new.

Several panels were held on the new series, and they tended to be lively and very well attended! Attendees included a huge Dalek, K9 and even Rose Tyler was there with her very own sonic screwdriver and custom-built TARDIS, complete with “Bad Wolf” written on the side - awesome!

Many people came by the DWIN table and joined the club, which we are very pleased about.  If you’re one of the new members that joined and have just discovered this blog, welcome to the club! Please feel free to say hello in the comments section.

Congratulations to everyone who made the event a success.

Hiho,

I even slipped a subtle “Bad Wolf” reference into closing ceremonies, and was very pleased and impressed at the huge reaction it got…

Cu,
Andrew

I was upset that I ran out of film. I would of loved to have taken a picture of Rose with her TARDIS. She had a sonic screwdriver too? I would have loved to see that as well.

Oh, well. At least I had a picture with Matthew Waterhouse with a Dalek and K-9 in the picture. That came out great!

I think I’ll get to reading these old Myth Makers that I got from the DWIN table… Hmmm… The Daleks versus the Cybermen versus the Doctor?

Wasn’t that Rose Tyler just FANTASTIC! (Shameless self glory). It was actually quite nice to meet so many doctor who fans out there, and get my picture taken so often too. That TARDIS is a fan boy killer!

Rose, You were indeed fantastic.

But you know what?

So was I! smile

It was nice to meet you Tessa. Welcome to the club and the blog. Thanks again for leaving your TARDIS with the DWIN table for a while. I hope we get to see more of it in the future, especially with the flashing light on top!

Also, if they are reading this, thanks to the guy with the excellent huge Dalek and the guy with the K9 (and extremely cool Welsh Bad Wolf t-shirt) for doing the same. Altogether the three made for a very noticeable DWIN table this year - and we haven’t even mentioned our special Captain Jack posters yet!

It was from way back in Myth Makers 1. I finished reading it today. Next up is Myth Makers 2!

It’s always great to connect with the DWIN gang. I was only at Toronto Trek on Sunday afternoon (my schedule prevented me from attending more of the con) so I missed most of the Who panels and did not get to see the familiar faces hawking “Enlightenment” at the club table. Only at the final Time War panel did I get to interact with the DWIN crowd, who were friendly and welcoming as always.

I did get to see Matthew Waterhouse and be photographed with him. Most of the stories told about him would probably be told about any overeager teenage fan suddenly getting to work on his favorite show, as the older Mr. Waterhouse was charming and entertaining.

One thing I wished TT guests were told, though: that some people attend one day but not the other days, so it’s OK to answer a question that was asked the day before! Nonetheless, an enjoyable time.

Keep up the good work!
