YouTubing It #28: Helloooo Stonehenge

Ever wonder what Matt Smith’s climactic speech from The Pandorica Opens would be like if it were given by another Doctor, say, Sylvester McCoy?

Well thanks to a bright spark conducting a panel with Sylvester at Dragon*Con this weekend, wonder no more…

I think other people doing con panels with other Doctor actors should ask them to do that speech. It would be fun to see it tried by Peter Davison, Paul McGann or Colin Baker…

I thought that Sylvester McCoy was a great doctor - Matt Smith’s doctor had some similar character traits. The both projected a sense of a bumbling eccentric to disarm their opponents - I kind of slight of hand to allow themselves the time to put a plan in motion. Both had a pronounced “dark side”.
McCoy was a very interesting Doctor.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who liked Sylvester McCoy. He reminded me of Patrick Troughton, but with his own special wide-eyed quality. And I can’t help thinking he and Troughton both got a raw deal. In McCoy’s case I feel his time was cut too short, and in Troughton’s case there’s so much that’s been lost and will probably never be recovered.

A McCoy fan - awesome.
I had someone tell me that he was the worst Doctor because he got the worst scripts - that kind of logic (lack of…) leaves me with a migraine. The show had been suffering from problems that where there long before McCoy was at the Tardis controls and I’m not going to lay blame here - it’s just too bad he didn’t get a longer run. There was a slight nastiness in the McCoy Doctor that I liked and I see it from time to time in the Matt Smith Doctor. It makes me sit back and take notice - grin from ear to ear.

So it wasn’t Matt’s fault it was the dialogue.

I suspected as much.

I kind of figured that Matt Smith was the best doctor because of his talent as an actor and because of Steve Moffat’s brilliant scripts - not following you on this one Ryan.
