Doctor Who Predicts the Future (well…..sort of)

Remember that scene in Fear Her which seemingly nobody liked (except for me) where the Doctor picks up the Olympic Torch and runs with it? Well six years after that story was broadcast, the current incarnation of the Doctor, Matt Smith, will be carrying the Olympic Torch for real as part of the lead-in to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The run will occur this weekend in Cardiff (where Smith is busy filming the new batch of Doctor Who episodes) as part of the tour of UK which the Olympic Torch is making. If you want to see the event, the BBC News website will carry the run, starting at 6:25 am (presumably UK time).

There was also an Olympics-themed mini-episode of Doctor Who with Matt and Karen that aired during Blue Peter yesterday. We’ll never get to officially see it over here (the last student-written mini-episode, Death is the Only Answer, never got on the Series 6 DVD so I assume this new one won’t either), but it’s been posted to the usual video-sharing places. It’s titled “Good as Gold”. As for Smith carrying the torch, good on him; I know there was a petition going around to get David Tennant to carry the torch in London. They haven’t announced all the torchbearers yet so that could still happen.

The BBC News Website has a 3-minute video interview with Matt Smith talking about the privilege of carrying the torch.

He seemed really pleased to have the privilege of carrying the torch and was incredibly humble during his interview.

I’m sick of you using this blog as a medium for you to take ciredt for my ideas.  It was my idea to go to that protest, and it took quite a bit of convincing for you to agree with me.And yes, I’m very petty.  Here’s something to spark a fire of your own:Newsom critic Aaron Peskin, president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, was unimpressed. Gavin Newsom runs San Francisco the way the premier of China runs his country   secrecy, lies, misinformation, lack of transparency and manipulating the populace,  Peskin told the San Francisco Chronicle.  He did it so China can report they had a great torch run.
