A great Doctor Who Christmas special crafted with an eye to childhood-wonder and innocence. What stands out in this special was the emphasis on the fantasy genre. I particularly liked the wood creatures, the spaceship tower in the snowy woods, and a little WW2 heroism mixed in. Again the plot, acting and special effects were superb. Some really iconic scenes which will stick with fans will include the x-mas present/gateway to another dimension (truly inspired!)A great introduction to what should prove to be a great 49th season.

I’d like to add that I was in tears by the end. It was a very emotionally cathartic resolution: the logic (while rooted in the fantastic) held together beautifully and allowed me to completely accept the return of the Bomber WWII fighter plane.
As a personal disliker of Moffat’s results as show-runner and a not-too great enthusiast of Matt Smith AAAAAAND a hater of Amy Pond ( but I do like Rory ), I have surprised myself by saying this is one of the best Christmas specials.

My son asked a question about this story, and I was wondering what others thought about the answer. In Father’s Day, changing history so a man who died instead lived caused a wound in time and called forth the Reapers to cauterize it. So how come this change in history to make a man who died live happens without serious consequence? (Other than the obvious reason that the change in history happened at the end of the story rather than the start of it and there was no time to explore the consequences…) I’ve thought about the idea of Pete’s death being one of those “fixed points,” but I don’t recall that being how the Doctor ever said Pete’s death was that pivotal in the time stream.

Good topic for discussion…!
I think the Doctor said to the bride and groom something along the lines of “A boy and a girl, alone, at 2 in the morning: that’s them most important thing in the universe”.
Based on that, I think that Pete’s death would be important too - and probably a fixed point in time.
Just a thought. Comments? Feedback?
